Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

Last year when I first wanted to letter some Bible verses that spoke into the coexistence of joy and sorrow I asked on social media for suggestions for verses to include. I had so many responses, and although I’ve only lettered four so far I have saved them all and will hopefully do a few more in the future.

One of the verses that was suggested by quite a few people was Psalm 61:2 which reads,

From the end of the earth, I will call to you, when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 61:2 Christian Print - Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

[Find this print here.]

It was a great suggestion, especially after the year we’ve all had. For me, feeling overwhelmed is something that I would definitely associate with this past year. It has been full of so many challenges that have sometimes felt insurmountable and in the midst of it all I would frequently find my heart feeling overwhelmed.

The challenge of the year has made the imagery of this verse resonate with me even more and I thought I’d share what it means to me:

  • God is a rock - a firm foundation, steadfast, strong and never changing.
  • He is a high place - a place of safety but also a point with perspective that is above what we can normally see.
  • He is higher than I - I fall and fail so often, but where I am not able, he is infinitely able.

I hope that this verse is an encouragement to you and if your heart feels overwhelmed you can know God as a rock and a high place of safety and vision.

With love and blessings,

Cath x
